Career
Day at Springboro Elementary
Springboro, Ohio
May 8, 2007 - Tuesday morning was turning out to
be a beautiful, quiet spring day. The sun shone brightly ahead as nearly 200 students milled into the Springboro Elementary School parking lot for
yet another Career Day 2007 demonstration. They had just finished listening to a presentation from Mr. Jeff Sexton, a
North Central Division III Sportsman Racer, on having a career in motorsports. Yet this was not just your average Career
Day spectacle. The anticipation was plastered over everyone's faces - even the teachers couldn't help but stare
as Jeff's Top Sportsman Car and its fierce red color came into view. Sharon, his wife & 5th grade teacher at Springboro
shouted for everyone to cover their ears as they lined up and sat down in class formation on the curb. Then the magic
started.

As the engine roared to life those that hadn't already covered their ears hurriedly found good use for their fingers.
The explosion of sound was felt, not heard from every corner of the school. Classroom windows turned into murals of faces
that unfortunately could not participate in this later demonstration. Then, before you knew it the show was over.
Children crowded the vehicle to get an up-close view of a real racecar. Sharon handed out posters chronicling the history of the
sport, while Jeff had fun answering questions from the students and school staff. As the students slowly headed back to their
classrooms covered in stickers, you can be sure that this career day was one to remember.
